The Rhode
Island Office of Diversity, Equity and Opportunity will be hosting a workshop, “Women in the Trades,” to connect women and
girls with information on employment opportunities in the trades.
The event is
being held on Saturday, April 29, from 10:00
a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Providence Career and Technical Academy (PCTA), 41
Fricker Street, Providence, RI. The
forum is hosted by the R.I. Office of Diversity, Equity and Opportunity’s Human
Resources Outreach and Diversity Office (HROD), in partnership with several
community-based organizations and trade associations.
The workshop
will feature a panel of women currently working in the trades, who will share
their experiences – both challenges and rewards – and encourage attendees to
pursue the employment opportunities available in the trades. There will also be representatives from
various trade organizations with information on requirements, apprenticeship
programs and other educational opportunities available in relation to their
specific trade. The event is being
hosted in partnership with Rhode Island Building Trades Association, Rhode
Island Department of Transportation, Providence School Department, YWCA of
Northern RI, Building Futures, Center for Women and Enterprise, Rhode Island
Commission on Women, Women Fund of Rhode Island.
