Providence, RI – The R.I.
League of Charter Schools, a statewide organization representing 18 charter
schools across Rhode Island, expresses its outrage over the Trump
Administration’s policy of “zero-tolerance” which has separated thousands of
migrant children from their parents and families.
“Our member charter
schools serve over 6,700 students and their families across Rhode Island. A
significant number of our families are immigrants and refugees that have come
to the United States seeking a better life and to escape the violence and
threats in their homeland. This policy of forced-separation of children from
their parents is cruel, inhumane and abhorrent to the values we hold as
Americans.” said Keith A. Oliveira, Executive Director of the R.I. League of
Charter Schools.
“We thank our
congressional delegation for expressing the outrage of all Rhode Islanders and
urge them to continue to put pressure on the Trump Administration to reverse
this reprehensible policy. We also thank Governor Gina Raimondo for her
decision not to send Rhode Island National Guard units to the southern border
to support this policy. This policy does not reflect who we are as Americans
and as Rhode Islanders. It is an affront to our moral sensibilities and
values.” said Mr. Oliveira
