Raimondo along with the General Officers of the State of Rhode Island and
Providence Plantations was sworn in on the South Lawn of the State House in
Providence on January 1st at high noon.
Governor along with the elected officials marched onto the South Lawn in a
procession led by the 88th Army Band, Rhode Island National Guard,
followed by the posting of the Colors and Governors Flag by the Rhode Island
State Police. State Trooper Kim Pitts-Wiley, Governors Executive Security; sang
the National Anthem and the pledge of allegiance was led by the Cranston
National Budlong Little League Junior All-Star Team (Girls).
Convocation was called to order by the Honorable Nellie M. Gorbea, Secretary of
State and the Invocation by Imam Farid Ansari, Muslim American Da’wah Center of
Rhode Island and Reverend Edward L. Pieroni, St. Raymond’s Roman Catholic
Church. Tina Cane, State Poet read the Inaugural Poem.
Engagement of the Governor, Lieutenant Governor Daniel J. McKee by Nellie M.
Gorbea, secretary of State. Engagement of Secretary of State Gorbea, Attorney
General Peter F. Neronha, and General Treasurer Seth Magaziner, was
Administered by the Governor.
Presentation of the Certificate of Election by Diane C. Mederos Chairwomen,
Board of Elections followed by the reading of the Proclamation of Election by
the High Sheriff David DeCesare. Major General Christopher P. Callahan,
Adjutant General of Rhode Island, made the presentation of the Gorget.
Following the 88th Army Band’s playing of Ruffles and Flourishes and
the Stars and Stripes the Rhode Island Militia fired a nineteen-gun salute.
Inaugural Address was given by Governor Raimondo and the singing of America the
Beautiful by Brigitta Larson, Girls Rock RI!, Alumni. Rabbi Sarah E. Mack,
Temple Beth-El, Reverend Joanna Orellana, President Social Transformation
Alliance and The Venerable Chear Chhoum, Dhamagosnarum of the Buddhist Temple
gave the Benediction. The Recessional March concluded the inauguration.
