Last weeks march on Charlottesville VA by Neo Nazis and KKK members eroded into a melee with ultra conservatives and Nazis squared of against anti-hate protestors. The result of which has been outrage across the country and indeed the planet. The only missing ingredient in the condemnation of these hate groups was the moral and ethical denunciation by our President. Yes he did make a statement that essentially blamed both sides of the melee for the sad display of freedom of speech. What he did not say initially was that he as President denounces bigotry, racism, anti-Semitism and these groups that bring hate with them wherever they go.
Donald Trump’s history has been to be on the wrong side of almost every issue that he has been involved in regarding race, sex and bigotry. His position has always been in opposition of Black and women issues. He has supported immigration as long as it benefits his development bottom line, but don’t ask him for support of issues that benefit women or the poor.
So when he in his official capacity Donald Trump responded to this crisis as we should have come to expect him to. He treated the event as cavalier as a President could without sounding callous and unconcerned. Where were the tweets of anger from the Twitter-in- Chief? Where were the demands by the US Attorney General to investigate a killing of an American citizen on American soil by a Nazis? Where were the photo-ops by Whitehouse staff in place of the vacationing President? All missing and asleep at the switch!
During these turbulent times with war on several fronts including North Korea’s threat of potential nuclear attacks, let’s hope the Whitehouse will not be asleep at the switch if the nation is truly attacked by foreign adversaries. Let’s hope that the President will make stronger more direct responses to future crisis events. Let’s hope that the President will take a stand against WRONG regardless of which political ideology is in support of the issue. Let’s hope that the President is more Presidential in the future so that the message is clear, direct and with the US Constitution as the basis for the response. However the jury is still out on this President’s interest. Pardon the pun.
But I’m Just Saying!
