In response to the Trump administration urging a federal court to dismantle two of the most critical Affordable Care Act provisions, DNC Disability Council Chair Tony Coelho released the following statement:
“Simply put, no one should be discriminated against just because they have a health concern or a disability. One in five adult Americans are living with a disability, and instead of protecting them from being denied access to the affordable health coverage they gained under the ACA, the Trump administration is putting insurance companies back in the driver’s seat, picking and choosing whom to cover.
“Denial of insurance coverage based on a pre-existing condition has long been a major problem for many individuals with disabilities and their families. Families are impacted when their loved ones are unable to get coverage. That’s why President Obama and Democrats fought so hard to enact critical protections for people with pre-existing conditions and prevent insurance companies from charging people higher rates because of their health status.
“Like most Americans, Democrats believe health care is a right for all, not a privilege for a wealthy few. We will fight back, and the American people will make their voices heard by voting Republicans out of office for their senseless attacks on families all across this country.”
